What if the secret to lasting weight loss had nothing to do with diets… and everything to do with your mind?

In this empowering episode, I sit down with Dr. Deb Butler—Certified Master Weight Loss & Life Coach, Board-Certified Chiropractor, Nutritionist, Acupuncturist, and host of the podcast ThINNER Peace in Menopause and Beyond. Dr. Deb shares a refreshing, sustainable approach to wellness that helps women finally break free from diet culture and create peace with food.
After decades of struggling with weight and yo-yo dieting, Dr. Deb reached a turning point at age 50. She walked away from diets for good and developed a powerful, mindset-based method to help women—especially those navigating menopause—lose weight in a way that actually lasts.

💡 What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • Why the real issue isn’t what you eat—but why you eat
  • How emotional eating can keep you stuck in unhealthy patterns
  • A simple way to recognize true hunger vs. emotional hunger
  • The powerful “-10 to +10” hunger scale—and how to use it
  • Why learning to trust your body is the key to natural weight loss
  • How to quiet your “toddler brain” (a.k.a. the lizard brain)
  • The role of mindfulness in creating lasting change
  • Why controlling the mind is the first step to transforming the body

🧠 Mindset Matters More Than You Think

Dr. Deb explains that many of us eat not because we’re physically hungry, but because we’re trying to soothe stress, boredom, or emotional discomfort. Her approach invites us to pause and ask: Am I truly hungry?
She introduces a simple but powerful hunger scale:

-10 = starving
0 = neutral
+10 = stuffed

The goal? Stay between -2 and +2—eat when you’re gently hungry and stop when you’re satisfied. It sounds simple, but it requires something many of us have lost: trust in our own bodies.

👶 The “Toddler Brain” vs. Your Higher Mind

One of the most memorable insights from this episode is Dr. Deb’s analogy of the brain.

She describes part of the mind as a “toddler”—impulsive, emotional, and demanding immediate gratification. This “lizard brain” throws tantrums when it doesn’t get what it wants.

But just like a loving parent doesn’t give in to every tantrum, we don’t have to obey every craving.

Instead, we can use our higher brain—the prefrontal cortex—to respond with intention, discipline, and self-love.

❤️ Make Peace with Food—For Good

Dr. Deb’s message is both freeing and empowering

If you want to change your body, start by changing your mind.
By developing awareness, practicing mindfulness, and learning to listen to your body, you can finally step off the diet rollercoaster—and stay off.
This isn’t about restriction.
It’s about freedom, peace, and lasting transformation.
